Marcus Worgull - Love Song EP

Releases
07.09.2018

Innervisions’ 2018 opened with Marcus Worgull’s prophetic  Broad Horizons EP . The lasting impact of that record’s stunning title track came from the marriage of the DJ/producer’s quality-over-quantity reputation with the instantly recognisable bluesy croon of British singer-songwriter Fink. This ongoing, organic collaboration of two acclaimed artists in their own fields has again created something beautiful and undeniably iconic.

Stemming from one of their spontaneous jam sessions, it all began when Marcus played a beloved favourite - “Love Song” from 1989, by cult band The Cure. Fink overlaid Robert Smith’s lyrics in his own unique style, and the seed for this lovingly crafted cover version was planted. The unmistakable bass riff and lead melody of the original remain intact, but under Marcus’ sure hand they glide over a sultry, dubbed out, mid-tempo beat, while Fink’s yearning tone adds an urgent sense of intimacy.

A second version, “Love Dub” dials up spacious delays and a heavyweight bass treatment, while snatches of vocals are shot through the centre with reverb. The EP’s third song, "Listen To Charanjit“ takes a different musical approach; an upfront and playful electro-disco bass line foregrounds an arrangement inspired by the late Charanjit Singh, whose pioneering early ‘80s fusion of traditional Indian Raga music and nascent synthesiser technology was far ahead of its time.
